Editorial & Review Policy

Every calculator follows the same development process: we identify an authoritative source (an ICAO or FAA document, a regulation in the e-CFR, a peer-reviewed formula, or a manufacturer POH), implement the published formula in code with full intermediate precision, validate the output against known-correct examples, and then document the assumptions and limitations on the calculator page itself.

The specific source, formula type, and assumptions for each tool are published on our Calculation Methodology page and bibliography.

We want to be candid about our current review status. Calculations are validated against authoritative sources by the FlightCalculators.com team. We do not currently have a named, independent Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) on the review panel, and we will not pretend otherwise.

We are actively seeking qualified CFI reviewers. If you are a CFI, CFII, or subject-matter expert willing to review calculators in your area of expertise, please contact us. When a reviewer is added, we will name them here only with their explicit permission and verified credentials.

A calculator or reference page is reviewed when any of the following happens:

• A regulatory change (a new amendment to 14 CFR, an updated AC, or a new AIM change).
• A source update (a new POH revision, a new World Magnetic Model epoch, or a revised handbook edition).
• A user-reported error submitted through our corrections process.

The last-reviewed date for each tool is shown in the per-calculator table on the Methodology page and on the calculator page itself.

FlightCalculators.com is built by the team behind SkeyeMentor, an AI-powered FAA ground school. We use AI-assisted tools during development — for drafting explanatory content, writing code, and generating test cases. Every formula, source citation, and safety-relevant statement is checked against the authoritative source by a human before it is published, and safety-relevant calculations are locked in with automated regression tests. AI is a drafting and engineering aid here, not the source of truth.
