Did You Know?

Density altitude—not the number on your altimeter—is what your aircraft actually “feels” for performance. On a hot day at a high-elevation airport, density altitude can climb thousands of feet above field elevation, lengthening takeoff rolls and flattening climb rates. This is why the FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (FAA-H-8083-25) stresses checking density altitude before every departure in warm or mountainous conditions.
